K&P - South Biking Trails

 

Trail Description

The K&P Trail - South is a popular 18 km. multi-purpose trail that follows the abandoned K&P railroad south from Calabogie to Flower Station. It is a flat, hard-packed dirt and gravel trail that makes for an easy ride. It is also a visually interesting trail as it passes through the forest and along beside several lakes and numerous wetlands. Along the way you will find many spots where you stop for a quiet picnic and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

 

How to get there

 

From the intersection of Hwy 508 and 511 in Calabogie, travel 4.5 km south on 511 past the tourist information centre to Barryvale Road. Turn right on Barryvale Road and follow it 5 km. to the Calabogie Highlands Golf Club where Barryvale Road ends at the K&P Trail trailhead.

Park at the intersection and head south keeping Calabogie Lake to your right. After about 1km the cottages along the lake end and you will find yourself travelling through rock cuts along the side of the mountain and through the forest. At 3 km the trail crosses Tatty Hill Road continuing south through a canopy of trees. At 6 km you will emerge from the forest and pass along the side of Mile Lake before passing across a natural causeway separating two small lakes know as Two Ponds. Further along the trail you will pass by Flower Lake and then Clyde Lake. Prior to arriving at Flower Station you will pass 5-6 wetlands on both sides of the trail.

The ride is not difficult and you will find it to be a fun family outing. Don’t forget your camera.

After reaching the intersection at Flower Station you can then turn around and follow the trail back to Calabogie.
