Snowshoeing
Description
The snowshoeing in the Calabogie area is excellent
despite the lack of a network of groomed and marked snowshoe trails. There are
literally hundreds of old logging trails for you to explore.
How
to get there
You’ll find these logging
trails scattered along a 20 km stretch of County Road
#508 beginning 8 km west of
Calabogie. Park at the side of #508.
Moments after leaving your vehicle you’ll find yourself in a spectacular winter
wonderland as you make your way through the forest, past lakes and up to
overlooks where beautiful panoramas will unfold before your eyes. Follow the
logging trails or experience the adventure of “bushwhacking”, creating your own
path as you wander deep into the rugged countryside. You’ll likely not see
another human being during your outing. You’ll be alone with nature and all of
its spectacular winter beauty. How far you follow a trail is totally up to you.
Your adventure can be as long or as short as you choose.
Information
Be careful however. Remember, the
trails are not marked and because it is isolated you’ll be on your own. You can
always retrace your steps but having a map, a compass, even a GPS unit is
highly recommended.
