K&P Trail - North
·
Trail Description
The K&P Trail - North is a 20 km multi-purpose trail that
follows the abandoned K&P railroad from Calabogie to Renfrew. At Calabogie
it crosses the Madawaska River and then winds it’s way north through rock and
forest passing wetlands and lakes before emerging into farmland as it nears
Renfrew.
The trail is well marked and being mostly flat makes for an
easy hike. Hikers can vary the distance traveled before retracing their route
to Calabogie. A 10 km round trip hike to Norway Lake makes for a fun and
interesting days outing.
From
the intersection of Hwy 508 and 511 in Calabogie, travel 1.5 km south on 511 to
the tourist information centre located on your right immediately after crossing
the second bridge.
Directly across the road from the parking lot at the tourist information centre you’ll find the trail begins at the newly refurbished K&P trail bridge. From there it crosses a second bridge over the Madawaska River and continues north crossing both 511 and 508 before entering the woods. From there the trail runs north through the forest and past wetlands to Norway Lake where you can picnic close to the lake prior to retracing your steps to Calabogie.
